From the Stable to the Streets
Bandanas were originally worn by cowboys in the south to protect their faces from dust. Now, bandanas are seen on the stage, in music videos, and on the streets.
Famous rapper Tupac wore a bandana in an innovative headband way. A bandana can be worn as a headband by rolling it up and then tying it in the front. Other ways to wear a bandana are around the neck as Usher did in the photo above.
Bandanas come in every color, it is a trendy necessity in the hip hop community that never goes out of style. This accessory is cheap too, typically, bandanas sell in a pack of 12 for no more than $13.
Dripping Gold
Gold chains are more than a piece of jewelry in the hip hop community, they are a staple in your everyday look and a statement of your hierarchical power. Many rappers also add pendants on their chain to support what they believe in such as a religious cross or their country’s flag.
Gold chains were first introduced to the hip hop community in the 80s by RUN DMC. A gold chain symbolizes wealth, attitude, and how well your music career is going depending on the size of the chain.
The most expensive chain is one and a half million dollars. This chain belongs to rapper Rick Ross and is his face in gold on a chain.

Versatile Velour
Remember those bright colored Juicy sweatpants the Cheetah Girls and Britney Spears always wore circa early 2000? They are back for the kill, or more importantly comfort.
Velour tracksuits have been worn more and more recently by famous hip hop stars. Let’s all hope this trend adapts to the times and innovates to high waisted sweatpants, the low waisted look is not coming back anytime soon.
Popular brands such as Nike and Adidas make velour tracksuits and are worn by hip hop dancers nationally for its flare and flexibility.
Oversized Monochromatic Fits
Yeezy is Kanye West’s fashion line most famously known for its various shades of brown and oversized look. Yeezy has a specific laid back but sophisticated vibe to the style. It is clean and modern in color but holds its laidback essence in the overall fit of the clothes.
Kim West is pictured supporting her brother in law Travis Scott’s merchandise in the picture above in a Yeezy-esque way. To conquer this look simply buy an oversized t-shirt and add spandex shorts underneath for the total “lazy but trendy” Yeezy edge.

Spunk it up with Spanx
Spandex is the latest pant trend. Many celebrities are changing the standard that spandex is just a fashion tool to wear under clothes to make the body appear slimmer. The biggest problem I have seen with this new hip hop trend is the infamous camel toe that is every girl’s worst nightmare,
Spandex pants are very practical for the hip hop studio, they are easy to dance in and bring out the feminine curves of one’s body. Spandex can be paired with a baggy t-shirt, sweatshirt, and sneakers for a relaxed look. For a night out in the club, pair spandex with a tight top and heels!
